End of Day Sketch of the Pagoda from the media lot. Day 2 of the Open Test. My girls were all at dance practice, so I stayed a bit longer just to enjoy sitting under the Pagoda.

Palou in the Pit
Late in Day 2 of the Open test at IMS. I was hot, had to pop my shirt collar to prevent the sun from blasting my neck.
4/29/26 - 4:23 PM - 61°
Daly in the Pit
I can’t help but be a Conor Daly fan. This is him in the pit box at the April IMS Open Test. I enjoy his podcast and am rooting for the hometown kid. I painted this during one of the breaks in on track action.

1955 Zink Special
There was a small rain delay on the Day 2 Open test at IMS and my buddy Alex Brisbey gave me a heads up that the museum had a bunch of the older cars in this garage. I quickly went over and they had this one pulled out getting it started. It is the 1955 Indy 500 winning John Zink special. I did not quite have the right color pink to completely do it justice but it was fun to paint!

Quick sketch of Rahal while his team was working on his car during Day 1 of the Open Test at IMS

Rasmussen’s Pit Crew
I really like how this one turned out. A pretty quick little sketch but I like the light and shadow play on the two crew guys. #21 car

Armstrong at IMS
Marcus Armstrong, 66 Car under the Pagoda. This corner had really cool light and shadow play creating these abstract shapes above the car that I was drawn to. It was cold in the shade.

Pato!
Day 1 at the IMS Open Test - Pato was about to roll out for some laps. Temps were not that hot but I did not have sun screen on yet and got burnt a bit painting this one. Worth it.
2/28/26 - 1:57 PM - 58°
Schumacher’s First Laps
When they rolled out Mick’s car, I quickly walked down pit lane so I could paint the moment his crew was watching his first Oval laps at speed at IMS. They watched the jumbotron right in front of their pit while I painted this moment.

IMS April Open Test
My first painting of 2026 in IMS, I walked all the way down Pit Lane and painted this scene looking towards the pagoda. I really liked the flag colors in the lower left.

Cold Weather Delay
October IMS Testing, it was a cold morning with light rain so I painted this while staying warm from the media center window.

RLL - Sato
I really love these scenes where both garage doors are open and the car is silhouetted. Sato was at the October test for RLL and this was the car he was driving that day.

Palou Winning Astor Cup
Painted so quick living during the trophy ceremony. It all happened so fast, I forgot to get a photo of this one finished.

The Astor Cup
This also happened so fast, I did not get a finished photo on site. This is not what the final card looked like. We were running around so fast and I was just painting like a wild person. It was so much fun!!

Ericsson’s Pit During the Nashville Race
It was pretty hot standing in the blasting sun but so worth it! I had a ton of fun painting this one and chose this angle so I could get the Nashville Grandstand.
8/31/25 - 2:55 PM - 86°
Rossi’s Pit During the Nashville Race
This was a pretty surreal experience. Right after the gridwalk, Kaltenmark from IMS and I rode on the golf cart with the Astor Cup to pit lane and then he put me up into Rossi’s timing stand for the beginning of the race. I first made a drawing real quick and then started watching the green flag and then his teammate Rasmussen crashed creating chaos in the pit. Rossi quickly came in for a very early pit and I painted this very very quick during and right after.

ECR’s Pit, getting ready for Rossi
Very very quick sketch, like maybe 2-3 minutes as his crew gets ready for an early pit stop.

Nashville Gridwalk, Pato & Malukas
Such a cool experience painting this from the very front of the gridwalk with all the drivers, media, celebrities all surrounding. This was the only time I randomly saw my buddy, Chris Taylor all day.

On Track Right before Driver Intro’s
The drivers were all on track walk over to the stage for driver intros and I made this while all of that was happening.

The All-American Rejects Concert
Logistically, I had to get from the inside of the track to the outside quickly to capture this little painting. I was hot, sweaty, but made got there in time.

ECR’s Garage in Nashville
I seriously had so much fun doing this one. Pretty quick at about 20 minutes but I really like how it turned out.

Loved painting the driver flags down the Paddock at Nashville.

I really am drawn to these vista type paintings where we can see far away. It was such a pretty sunrise this morning.

Daly’s Flag
Seriously loved painting these in the Paddock. So much color and life. I think this actually looks a bit like Conor too which is cool considerings its about 10 brushstrokes on a tiny “canvas”.

8/30/25 - 2:48 PM - 85° - So Hot
Pato on Pole
It’s hard to make out but its his qualifying time along with the cars that qualified behind him. A pretty cool real time sketch.
8/30/25 - 2:33 PM - 85°
Newgarden Qualifying
Maybe the most hot I got all weekend. Also, I talked to the author John Oreovicz the entire time I painted this one. It was interesting hearing his perspective on the post split, current state of IndyCar.
8/30/25 - 1:53 PM - 85°
Music City Grand PRIX
I thought this one turned out particularly cool for how abstract all the brushwork is.
8/30/25 - 10:46 AM - 72°
Palou, Practice 1, Nashville
I turned this one into a bit of a landscape painting which was fun!

One of my favorites from the entire weekend. I really love how this one turned out and the color is just spectacular. A GEM of a painting.

Power’s Last Penske Race
I got into Nashville Friday afternoon and went out to the Superspeedway with Michael Kalthenmark. I was waiting on him and was walking past Power’s pit and could not help but think about all the rumors of this being his last Penske Race so I stopped and sketched this quick.
8/29/25 - 3:26 PM - 84°
Hotel Lobby view of Nashville
I made this while waiting on Michael Kaltenmark to head out to the Superspeedway. This one is a bucket list one for me. I sat here quietly contemplating the weekend of memories ahead. It is hard to put into words what my weekend in Nashville meant but it is still having such a positive ripple effect on my life. Also, later this night, Kaltenmark took me out to Grand Slam Collectables. Coolest cards shop ever, we both bought a ton of junk wax from our childhoods and had a ton of fun ripping them open. Seriously such a fun weekend and I am grateful to IndyCar for letting me play a small part in it.
